MY BACKGROUND

I am also a member in good standing of the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO), and of the Canadian Association for Psychodynamic Therapy (CAPT). Over the years, I have worked with a wide range of individuals, from those who want support with the normal challenges of life to those who suffer the effects of trauma or personality disorder.

MY BACKGROUND
My name is Marjorie Lewis. I am a Registered Psychotherapist (RP), having graduated from the Centre for Training in Psychotherapy in Toronto in 2011.

I meet with my clients at my home office near Picton,
Prince Edward County, or in my virtual office on a secure medical platform, according to their preference.

When we are facing significant change, or when we cannot seem to make change happen, or when we feel unable to accept our circumstances, our relationships, or even ourselves; these are times when psychotherapy is an invaluable tool.

PSYCHOTHERAPY
Psychotherapy is regular, accompanied self-inquiry.
It takes place in the context of conversation, usually once a week, one hour at a time.

The client’s work is

to be willing to be seen and to be heard,

and to be truthful.

CONTACT ME
You are welcome to be in touch to discuss therapy itself,
to ask questions about me or my training and approach,
or to develop a sense of whether or not you and I might work comfortably together.

I came to psychotherapy from a long background in bodywork. My chosen modality was Shiatsu therapy, which is a Japanese form that evolved over many centuries from its origins in Traditional Chinese Medicine. The TCM perspective holds that the body is fundamentally and unfailingly wise; symptoms are guides to understanding. They always have history. Often the history is recalled with touch from a caring other. It was a natural progression for me, then, from compassionate touch to compassionate conversation, when it came time to let my hands rest.

'Psychotherapy’ sounds very much as though it concerns only the mind. I have named my practice PSYCHE/SOMA (mind/body) because these two elements of life do, in fact, always turn up together. Pain and illness, the interplay of emotional and physiological activity, and our individual responses to the predicament of embodiment in general; these are subjects of abiding and passionate interest for me. Your physical self, with its history and all your feelings about it, can be as much a part of our conversation as you wish or need it to be.

My aim is to work with utmost respect for my clients and for whatever pain or distress they bear.

Open, honest, directed conversation consistently leads to insight.  Being seen by another provides the opportunity to see one’s own self in new and occasionally surprising ways. Truly understanding how we have come to be who and where we are in life provides an anchor in the process of change; it allows us to gradually shed what we no longer need and to move toward what is more useful.
